A dental check-up is often described as a “distressed purchase” and certainly we understand the anxiety, fear and foreboding that can accompany any visit to the dentist. (That’s why we give you a coffee or tea in reception!) Of course almost every patient who presents to us with these fears leaves us with a (much-improved!) smile saying, “I don’t know what I was worried about! That was painless!” That perceived pain comes in a number of forms, the two most common ones being fear of pain or being hurt and fear of cost.
